We all go through many different stages in life and it comes down to how we take advantage of what’s given to us. The choices we make and how we go about achieving our dreams and reaching our dreams is something that we all must think about. But when passion and determination kicks in, there’s not a whole lot that can stop it. There’s one student athlete that seems to have that passion to fight to prove to everyone that dreams are reality and that would be Davon Gunn.
Salem High School Defensive End Davon Gunn. A 5’11” 217lbs junior that had a very impactful season last year for his team. Even with the struggles that Salem encountered, Gunn was able to showcase his talents and that did not go unnoticed.
I had the opportunity to get to know Gunn. I asked him, when did you become interested in playing sports? “I always wanted to play football, ever since I was able to talk. Football was always so interesting to me” said Gunn. But the bigger question would be, why do you play football? “I play football because it has always been a dream and a passion of mine. It helps with many emotions I have, and I just love the physicality of it all. Football has truly shaped me to who I am today” said Gunn.
Gunn has what you call a “silent but deadly disposition” which is an athlete that speaks only with their play and not with their words. Gunn has a lightening quick first step off the ball which makes his speed rush difficult to stop for opposing offensive tackles. I asked Gunn, what were his goals for the 2016 football season, as well as goals outside of football? “I’m looking to be a leader on my team and making a difference on and off the field. I want to take what I learn and apply it to my life and football, and to just ball out and show everyone that they should be paying attention to me and my teammates” said Gunn.
With now knowing what Gunn is capable of doing on the field, I wanted to know a little bit more about who he is off the field. I asked Gunn about his family. “My family is my life. I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world. My family is very hard working, and we all stick together. We are religious and we believe that “a family that prays together, stays together”. My parents motivate me every single day to become the man that they have been shaping me up to be one day” said Gunn.
With growing up you start to develop and understand who you are as a person and what you want to become. For many, that question still remains unanswered. So I asked Gunn, can you tell me who Davon Gunn is? “Davon Gunn, wow that’s a tough question but I would say he is a guy who lives by his morals that his parents have instilled in him, excellent character, willing to go the extra mile just to help others, always hard working, but most importantly he lets his actions do the talking” said Gunn.
With the 2016 Football season rapidly inching closer Gunn has been doing his offseason training with Rising Stars Recruiting every Sunday to improve his techniques with some of the best student athletes in the state of Michigan. Even with no offers as of yet, Gunn has shown that he is very deserving of one, after last weekend’s performance being named as one of the top performer’s at the Adidas Chicago Football showcase.
God, family and football is what Davon Gunn is all about. With his focused mindset and having the passion to achieve whatever that may stand his way Gunn will not disappoint.
