The 2018 football season for Macomb L’Anse Creuse North was not the season the team had in mind. They finished the season with a 4–5 record and missed the playoffs for the second straight season. But there were some bright moments of the season and that was from Junior Linebacker Logan Simons.
Simons is 6’0” tall and 235 lbs. and a solid size kid who can fly around and make plays. Simons was the heart and soul of the defense. Simons racked up 108 tackles this past season. He also played Tight End and had 4 catches and 182 receiving yards. Simons is a versatile athlete. Playing on both sides of the ball. This really made him stand out among the rest. “ I stand out because of my size and speed. I am 235 lbs. so people naturally think I’m slow but on the field I make the plays. I’m very coachable and can adapt to any situation that might occur,” said Simons.
Although the season didn’t turn out the way Simons thought it would for his team, he made the Oakland County “All County Team” as a junior. The Oakland County team is where mostly seniors get selected. Last year was a good season for Simons. In his senior year he wants to lead his team to the playoffs and obtain better stats. “I’ve worked my butt off to be where I’m at now. Currently in the weight room, I am leading the team in squats, deadlifts and bench pressing,” said Simons.
This off-season Simons is training at Rising Stars with Reggie Wynns. Every week Simons gets the opportunity to train and compete against the best of the best. Rising Stars helps get student athletes ready to play at the next level by having them compete in 1 on 1 drills and 7 on 7 competition every week. Last weekend at the Saginaw Valley State exposure camp, Simons performed great and made the Rising Stars All Team selection.
With Simon’s senior season around the corner and recruiting starting to become more serious, we asked Simons, what were some of the things that he wants to prove to himself and others that have doubts about him? “You will always have people in your life that doubt you. I want to prove to people that I can make it to the next level and live out my dreams to play college ball. With hard work and the right attitude anything is possible,” said Simons.
Chasing your dreams is never easy. You have to work hard and not be afraid to take chances in life. In life, you may fail and not accomplish what you have been striving for, but that is the moment that you have to look at your life and see what you need to do to correct it. Most are afraid to go after their dreams because of the hard work it might take to reach them. The ones who aren’t afraid to risk things and go outside their comfort zone will be the ones who will succeed. “The fear I have is ending up not doing what I love in life. You only have one life so you have to make the most of it,” said Simons.
The fear of failure motivates Simons. He will do whatever it takes to succeed on the football field and in the classroom. He has good character and works extremely hard to be the best he can for his family. Expect L’Anse Creuse North to have a better season with Logan Simons leading the way.
Its easy to have dreams but its harder to chase them!
